Rachel Nieuwhuis – surveyor
After completing her Maritime Officer studies in 2004, Rachel started working as an engineer at Broere Shipping. She worked on several ships, but mostly on chemical tankers. Eventually, she was promoted to chief engineer.
After several years at sea, Rachel chose, for the sake of her family, to start as a teacher at the Scheepvaart & Transport College in Rotterdam. After two years of teaching, she noticed she missed working on ships and chose a position in ship repair at Damen Shiprepair and Conversion. Here she was responsible for the final invoicing and interim budgets of repairs and conversions of various ship types.
To learn different aspects of ship repair, Rachel joined Van Oord Ship Management as tender coordinator, where she organized the repairs and conversions of the fleet. She drew up detailed specifications of the repairs/conversions, negotiated prices and drafted contracts.
From September 2021 to early 2024, Rachel worked at Van Ameyde Marine as a marine surveyor on (technical) transport damages. During this time, she became acquainted with Marintec Expertise BV. In February 2024, Rachel made the switch to Marintec Expertise BV and Verschoor & Bras BV. She has since started with great enthusiasm.
